Loading and unloading specialist Thorworld Industries has manufactured a bespoke loading platform for a mineral water brand, supporting a change to the company’s Goods In process for its bottles.

As part of a shift in its inbound logistics, the customer is set to receive bottles via rail, a move that means deliveries will arrive in containers rather than standard vehicles.

With its existing Goods In area not designed to accommodate this method, the company considered various options, including a concrete structure, before approaching Thorworld Industries. Following a site visit by Thorworld distributor Loading Bay Service (LBS), a fixed platform was identified as the most suitable long-term approach for its needs.

Thorworld designed and manufactured the L-shaped loading platform, a structure that enables containers to reverse directly up to the ramp, where bottles will be safely unloaded via a swing lip leveller. They can then be transferred along the ramp into the warehouse.

Although the platform is currently awaiting its first deliveries, the installation ensures the customer is prepared for its new supply chain model and has a solution aligned with both operational requirements and site constraints as it moves towards containerised deliveries.

Warren Craig of LBS said: “Following a detailed site assessment, it was clear that a fixed platform would provide the best long-term solution. Working with Thorworld allowed us to deliver a design tailored to the customer’s layout and operational needs, ensuring the site is ready to handle container deliveries safely and efficiently.”
