Installing a bespoke Thorworld yard ramp has solved a vehicle access problem for a leading independent next-day business mail company.
Having recently moved to new premises, the courier needed a solution to allow vehicles to drive into a basement loading and unloading area. The road level at the new depot was more than a metre above the basement floor, so there was no direct access for vehicles to enter to load and unload its mail.
Based on the customer’s exact requirements, Thorworld designed and manufactured a bespoke loading ramp, which was delivered in two sections and assembled on site. The loading ramp measured 4.5m wide x 8m long, with a maximum weight capacity of 8,000kg.
The permanent vehicle ramp, which is bolted to the concrete floor, enables vehicles to reverse down into the basement unloading area and is used for vans and 7.5 ton trucks. Once inside, the shutter doors are closed and locked to provide a secure area while the vehicles’ contents are transferred into the sorting department.
