Imagine that a business premises has been hit by disaster. Something that immediately brings a halt to operations – for example a fire, or a flood.

In such circumstances, continuity is critical, so it’s likely that the business will look to relocate quickly in order to maintain production.

Yet the odds are that the new building will lack certain key infrastructure. After all, the original facility was tailored to the business’s precise needs; at speed and under distress, it would be a miracle to find a direct replacement.

A dedicated loading dock is often among the missing elements. This means the business will need an alternative solution to address temporary loading and unloading.

That’s where equipment such as a yard ramp, a modular dock or a loading platform can make a vital impact, turning almost any space into a functioning loading area.

Helping a Customer After a Crisis

Thankfully, such crises are rare, but when they do occur, we’re ready to act quickly to support businesses under pressure.

We recently designed and built a bespoke loading platform for a company forced to relocate following a fire.  The temporary building had no loading dock, so the customer needed a solution that would allow outbound goods to be loaded at trailer height.

After considering scissor lifts, the customer opted for a loading dock wide enough to provide access to two trailers simultaneously.

Our solution consisted of a bespoke Type 10 ramp secured to the 12×9.25-metre platform. We installed 2x electro hydraulic, telescopic dock levellers where the platform met the existing loading doors to assist loading, along with various safety features, including wheelguides, dock shelters, dock lights, guardrails, 2x access stairs and a ground level loading barrier all to ensure the customer could operate safely and efficiently.

This solution enabled forklifts and powered pallet trucks to transport goods from ground level directly up to the trailer, ready for delivery.
